An Auspicious Year for Co-ops

2012 is the International Year of Cooperatives and we'll be joining the UN, as well as other cooperatives around the globe to highlight the contribution of cooperatives to socio-economic development, poverty reduction, employment creation and social integration co-ops provide throughout the world.

Over a billion people are members of co-ops worldwide. All are member owned and democratically run. Find out more about cooperatives, the principles that guide them, and the ways they seek to improve and strengthen the communities they serve.

Super Saturated Colorful Goodness

This Week's Featured Produce: Turmeric, Blueberries, Carrots

• Organic Fresh Turmeric, from Hawaii - $16.99 lb.
Super antioxidant nutrition, rich orange color, and a deep earthiness are all good reasons to add this poor man's saffron to rice or grain dishes, or to fruit/vegetable juices.

• Organic Blueberries, 1/2 pint container - $2.99
The imported berries continue to be super tasty and are on sale, which makes 'em even sweeter!

• Organic Rainbow Carrots - $2.99/ bunch
Back in stock and brilliant with color. A nice reminder of the many diverse cultivars of carrots, some of which are often neglected for the now common orange carrot. Super tasty!

Blackbird Heritage Farm

There's some remarkable work being done just south of Nashville on the grounds of Blackbird Heritage Farm. In addition to being fastidious about the flavor of their meat products, the folks at Blackbird Heritage Artisan Meats are committed to a responsible, sustainable approach to animal husbandry.

Three Rivers Market is happy to share the fruits of their considerable labor in the form of delicious Sweet Italian Sausage and Mild Breakfast Sausage made from their Certified Organic Heritage breed hogs. Both are currently available in our meat case for $9.99 per 1 lb. pack.

Charge It

In partnership with the EV Project you can now re-charge your electric vehicle at Three Rivers Market. Two parking spaces near the building's entrance have been outfitted with chargers for electric powered vehicles.

Knoxville is one of four Tennessee cities with charging infrastructure and Tennessee is one of six early states (plus DC) to test the chargers.

We're thrilled to have this service available at the store and look forward to seeing it in use.

Scouts: The Urban Variety

Everyone is welcome to join the Urban Land Scouts, although the workshops are designed for adults and young adults (5th grade and older). Each workshop costs $4 for TRM members, $5 for non-members and includes all materials. Check out a complete listing of the activities and workshops here.

TRM Staff Pick

This week's selection comes from: Loralyn
Her pick: NOW Coconut Oil

"This Coconut Oil by NOW is the best moisturizer I have used. It absorbs right into my skin and does not leave my hands feeling greasy or oily. It lasts longer than lotions, too, so I don't need to constantly reapply, even during dry winter months."

Specific product requests or suggestions may be made at the Customer Service desk. Feel free to share any questions about items in the store with any our wonderful staff members.

It's A Locke!

Locke Plumbing has been in business since 1948. What's truly remarkable is they've been on the same block on North Broadway for 64 years. As one might expect, they stock plumbing parts of every description, but where they really shine is their expertise. The employees at Locke Plumbing have over a hundred years of combined experience in the plumbing business, so there isn't much about pipes and fixtures they haven't seen.

They stock a wonderful selection of vintage-type fixtures and have loads more available on their website. They really know their stuff.

Locke Plumbing is located at 754 N. Broadway - just north of the Broadway/Central intersection. Phone: 865-525-9317.
